Winter Destinations- Honolulu
Say "aloha" this winter.
Vacation is usually synonymous with summer time, but there's something to be said about traveling in winter. It's usually the cheapest time of year for many destinations worldwide, and traveling in a shoulder season means places are less crowded. Why not spend some time next December strolling through Christmas markets in London or Germany? Or, if you're wanting to get away from the cold there's always Hawaii.
Hawaii in January is very lovely and bit more affordable as opposed to summer months. I had the chance to go in 2014, and while there was definitely other tourists, Waikiki didn't feel super crowded and the weather was gorgeous. It was still hot in the 80s, but not as super humid as it can be. The water is still wonderfully warm to swim in, and it's also one of the best times to surf at Oahu's famous North Shore. And sitting quietly by the turquoise waters? Truly relaxing.
It's worth it to rent a car and do a loop around Oahu, as you'll see some very pretty things along the way like Diamond Head, Hanauma Bay, and even the Dole Plantation if you want to take a kitschy train tour with pretty views and enjoy some Dole Whips. There's plenty of hiking trails for the adventure seekers, and there's plenty of beach for leisure lovers.
And if you do decide to go, the acai bowls at Island Vintage Coffee are a must, and the Hawaiian Honey Latte is really something out of this world.
